Letters: Use tax-cut money wisely

USE TAX-CUT MONEY WISELY

In our paychecks this month, many of us will see a net increase in pay resulting from the recent income tax cut. All of us will be happy to see more money in our paychecks, whether it be a few dollars or thousands of dollars. It is tempting to think “how great it is that Congress and the president are giving us back more of our money.”

But we are deluding ourselves if we think that way. When we look at that pay increase, we need to understand that it isn’t our money that we are getting.  We have already spent this money on our current consumption of government support. The money for this tax cut (and pay increase) comes from our government borrowing from other countries and investors. We, and our children, will have to pay all of this money back, with interest. So use this tax cut money wisely.  Invest it in yourself to improve your skills and increase your earning power. You will need it to pay the higher taxes of the future.

ANOTHER DIVERSION BY DEMOCRATS

The media are again making mountains out of molehills. Media criticism of President Trump’s praise for the work of Rob Porter is unwarranted. We have two separate issues here — Porter’s competence at his job and the allegations from his ex-wives. Why not praise him for his work? The Democrats and the media praised ex-Sen. Al Franken for his work. No firestorms there!

Some in the mainstream media are now calling it a scandal. To me, the scandal is how the media are crucifying this man based only on accusations. I guess when it comes to “innocent until proven guilty,” this tenet of American law does not apply when women make the allegations. I’m not a great fan of MLK but this statement by him is worth noting: “Injustice for one is injustice for all.”

This is simply another diversion by the Democrats, Trump haters, resisters and the “Deep State” to draw attention away from the mounting evidence of criminal activity by the previous administration. Wake up, America. These people are scared stiff of being held accountable; they will stoop to lies, fabricating scandals and firestorms.
