Victims identified in Linwood Township head-on collision that killed one and left two injured

A Lindstrom man who died in a car crash Friday evening has been identified as 60-year-old Kevin Dale Lovdal.

His wife, Jody Lee Lovdal, 59, was sitting in the passenger seat at the time of the collision and was flown by helicopter to Regions Hospital in St. Paul in critical condition. The driver of the other vehicle, Lynn Marie Filla, 34 of Linwood, was flown to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale, also in critical condition.

“(Kevin Lovdal) was the type of person that everyone depended on. I mean that quite literally. He was the type of man who would help you… in any situation, he would 100% help you, so you grew to depend on him,” Lovdal’s nephew Spencer Lovdal wrote in a Facebook post. “If heaven is real…he is there.”

The Minnesota State Patrol and Anoka County Sheriff’s Office are still investigating the crash, which occurred around 7:20 p.m. Friday in the 9400 block of Northeast Viking Boulevard in Linwood Township.

Early investigation suggested that Filla, who was driving a Mercury SUV west, most likely crossed the centerline and struck the minivan that the Lovdals were eastbound in.
