April 27:  Always stylish, artsy, original and unconventional, Black Hearts Ball gets ready to celebrate its fifth anniversary with a black carpet, gallery-style installation by local designer Ivan Idlan and fashion presentation with live opera in the backdrop. The black-and-white-attire affair will spotlight 12 local designers, concluding with a piece from local designer and “Project Runway” Season 16 contestant Samantha Rei. The event, directed and produced by designers TIM + THOM, is open to audiences ages 16 and older (under 18 must be accompanied by an adult). 7-11 p.m., ARIA Minneapolis, 105 First St. N., Minneapolis; tickets start at the early-bird price of $35, with incremental increases closer to the event;

May 20: Joy Teiken’s shows have become famous not only for the fashion designer’s jaw-dropping creations, but also for transporting you to another place. And Teiken’s upcoming fashion presentation — inspired by space, the solar system and weightlessness — is looking to be out of this world. Models will appear in an intimate gallery setting for the designer’s 2018 collection unveiling. First showing 6:30-8 p.m.; second showing 8:30-10 p.m.; Lightbox Studio, 2600 E. 26th St., Minneapolis; tickets $20;
