Gluten-free pizzeria in Oakdale plans move to North St. Paul

Randy’s Premier Pizza in Oakdale will relocate its new 100 percent gluten-free operation after all.

Owner Randy Hueffmeier said he has secured a space in a former Subway sandwich shop (2231 11th Ave.) in North St. Paul.

Hueffmeier has gluten sensitivities and wheat allergies and saw his Oakdale restaurant, which opened in 1986, as a chance to create new menu items for those who suffer from the same sensitivities. He went with a completely gluten-free menu, turning Randy’s Premier Pizza into one of the first of its kind in the country. Hueffmeier has since decided to relocate the pizzeria.

The new location in North St. Paul is slated to debut July 1. In the meantime, the current Randy’s Premier Pizza (6030 50th St. N., Oakdale; 651-777-1400; randyspizza.com) remains open.

With the new location comes a new name. Randy’s Pizza Salute will feature an all gluten-free menu of pizza, pastas, sandwiches and Italian breads. A salad bar, dessert bar and a coffee/juice bar are also part of the lineup. The spot will continue to serve Minnesota-style pizzas and will add other varieties such as deep dish and wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas.

The site will also house a small retail shop with Hueffmeier’s brand of Randy’s Gluten Free goods, such as flour, bread, pancake and muffin mixes. Gluten-free pastas and frozen pizzas will also be part of the mix. For more information, go to randyspizza.com or facebook.com/RandysPizzaSalute.
