Rapper J Cole brings “KOD” and more to Target Center on Wednesday

Hip-hop star J. Cole — who’s playing Wednesday at Target Center — began rapping at 12 and taught himself production after his mother bought him a sampler for Christmas.

After finishing high school with honors in North Carolina, Cole went on to graduate magna cum laude from New York’s St. John’s University in 2007, the same year he issued his first mixtape, “The Come Up.” He has toured with Drake, Jay Z and Rihanna, and his first four studio albums went platinum.

In April, Cole issued his latest record, “KOD,” his fifth consecutive No. 1 album. His biggest-selling singles include “Work Out,” “Can’t Get Enough,” “Power Trip, “Crooked Smile” and “No Role Modelz.”

Young Thug, Jaden Smith, Earthgang and Kill Edward are also on the bill. Show is 7:30 p.m.; Target Center, 600 First Ave. N., Mpls.; $99.50-$39.50; 888-929-7849 or targetcenter.com.
