Man, 60, identified as pedestrian struck, killed by Green Line train

A man who died after being struck by a light-rail train in St. Paul was a 60-year-old from Columbia Heights, a Metro Transit official said Tuesday.

Bobby Ray Bowman and an acquaintance were crossing the Green Line tracks on Monday about 4:30 p.m. at Syndicate Street and University Avenue.

His friend made it across, but Bowman was struck by a westbound train that had the right-of-way, said Howie Padilla, a Metro Transit spokesman.

The circumstances remain under investigation, but Padilla said he always has the same general advice: “If you see a train and you think you can beat it, don’t take that chance.”
