South-metro robbery spree ends when suspects crash into Apple Valley squad car

Two men and a juvenile male drove around the south metro in a stolen car late Wednesday afternoon and committed four armed robberies before crashing into an Apple Valley squad car, police said.

All three suspects were arrested, according to a statement issued late Wednesday by Apple Valley police.

Just before 5 p.m., Apple Valley officers were called to a parking lot of a business near Cedar Avenue for an armed robbery. A victim reported being robbed at gunpoint by two male suspects. The suspects fled before officers arrived.

About an hour later, an armed robbery was reported to Eagan police. The victim reported being robbed at gunpoint by three males, and the description given matched the Apple Valley robbery suspects.

About a half-hour later, a similar armed robbery was reported in Burnsville.

Finally, about 10 minutes later, a victim reported being robbed at gunpoint near the Home Depot in Apple Valley, and the description given matched the three previous robberies.

Apple Valley officers spotted the suspects’ car in the store’s parking lot. As officers drove toward the car, the driver fled at a high rate of speed.

While attempting to flee police squads, the suspects’ car collided with an Apple Valley squad car. Minor injuries were reported. The car they were driving was stolen in Minneapolis earlier in the day.

Authorities were continuing to investigate the crime spree late Wednesday night.
