The No. 1-ranked Gophers women’s hockey team took 81 total shots, 39 of them on goal, and defeated Minnesota State Mankato 3-1 Friday night at Ridder Arena.
Abigail Boreen, Crystalyn Hengler and Amy Potomak scored for Minnesota (26-4-1, 16-4-1-0 WCHA).
The Gophers took a three-goal lead before the Mavericks (9-16-5, 3-15-3-2) got on the board in the third period. The Gophers had a 39-11 advantage in shots on goal, and Alex Gulstene stopped 10 of 11 shots she faced. Mavericks goalie Abigail Levy made 36 saves.
“I thought we played very well and defended well,” Gophers coach Brad Frost said.
