Motorcyclist crashes in St. Francis, dies

A 27-year-old Otsego, Minn., man was killed Sunday night after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing in St. Francis, authorities said.

St. Francis police and Allina EMS were called to the crash in 4000 block of St. Francis Boulevard Northwest around 8:17 p.m. A preliminary investigation shows that Eric Ryan Almquist of was driving with a group of friends on motorcycles going south on St. Francis Boulevard near the city’s Public Works building, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said.

When Almquist approached a curve in the road at a high rate of speed, he went off the road into a ditch and landed on the public works property. Lifesaving efforts were performed at the scene and Almquist was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, where he was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation by St. Francis police, the Minnesota State Patrol and Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.
