Lakeville South 14, St. Michael-Albertville 13: Truly tested for the first time all season, Lakeville South answered the call.
Trailing 13-0 entering the final quarter of their campaign, the Cougars (8-0) scored 14 points — on rushing touchdowns from Reid Patterson and Josh Jacobson — as the top-ranked team in Class 6A roared back to win a section title.
St. Michael-Albertville (6-2) missed a potential game-winning field 40-yard field goal as the clock expired.
Centennial 27, Stillwater 14: Lance Liu ran for 215 yards and two scores and Elijah Ward added 107 rushing yards and a score as Centennial’s front dominated en route to the upset victory to win a section title. Dominic Krenz ran for a 48-yard touchdown early in the first quarter to put Stillwater (4-3) up 7-0, but Centennial (4-4) scored the next 27 points.
Centennial out-gained the Ponies 386-189.
Simley 42, South St. Paul 26: Landan Duval ran for four touchdowns as Simley (5-2) overcame a 19-7 first-half deficit. Alonzo Dodd had two scores — a rushing touchdown and a 61-yard receiving score — for the Packers (2-5).
St. Thomas Academy 42, Henry Sibley 7: Danny McFadden ran for three scores, including a 73-yarder, and Love Adebayo added two more rushing touchdowns as the Cadets (7-0) ran to the Class 5A, Section 3 title.
Mahtomedi 20, North St. Paul 14: Jonathan Harvey’s 32-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter broke a tie as Mahtomedi (5-1) avoided a big upset. North St. Paul (1-4) led 7-0 at the half.
Minneapolis North 44, St. Agnes 0: The Polars (6-1) won the Class 2A, Section 4 title in convincing fashion, scoring 28 first-quarter points against a St. Agnes (5-1) defense that previously hadn’t allowed a point in the first three quarters of a game this season. Zach Yeager threw for four scores, while Mario Sanders had two rushing touchdowns and a receiving score.
Cannon Falls 56, St. Croix Lutheran 21: St. Croix Lutheran (5-2) jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter of the Class 3A, Section 4 title game, as Zach Longueville hit And Raasch for 67-yard score. Then Marcus Banks scored three unanswered rushing touchdowns and Cannon Falls (7-0) seized control for good. Dillen Anderson also had a pair of scores for the second-ranked Bombers.
Minneapolis Washburn 33, Tartan 28: Andrew Gotziaman threw for 337 yards and five touchdowns — four of which went to Jamarien Wheeler — to lead the Millers (6-1) back from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit. Jaylon Washington ran for 148 yards and two scores for Tartan (5-2).
Spring Lake Park 21, Irondale 0: Nolan Tuomi tallied three interceptions to lead a masterful defensive performance from the Panthers (6-1). Kaleb Skelly returned a fumble 25 yards for a touchdown to get the Spring Lake Park scoring started in the first quarter.
